Students of one West Jordan elementary school are getting meals provided for free on the weekend by the South Mountain Community Church in Draper.

Pastor Kyle Davis said the weekend grab-and-go meals are being provided in partnership with Columbia Elementary, a Title 1 school, to give breakfast, lunch, and dinner to children who might otherwise go hungry. He said:

We will be doing it for the next three Saturdays in May and are stocked to give away over 1,000 meals to over 500 families.

More than $8,000 has been donated and 45 volunteers to help in the effort to feed children who are engaged in distance learning. The school district provides grab-and-go meals on weekdays but the church’s food carries children and their families through the weekend.
