SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (KUTV) — Salt Lake County on Thursday announced a new grant program aimed at helping small businesses. The county is using $40 million from the coronavirus relief bill to give up to $35,000 to small businesses based on need.
In order to apply, you need to be a small business with 100 employees or less in Salt Lake County. You also need to have not received federal, state, or local COVID-19 financial aid.
After hearing from businesses and doing research into impacts, the county selected specific industries, including food service, health and wellness, personal care, and entertainment as well as artists and performers. These are the industries businesses need to be in to apply.
Crystal Young-Otterstrom with the Utah Cultural Alliance says the arts in Utah have suffered nearly $55 million in losses since the pandemic began. And losses now make it harder to pay to put on future performances and events.
